Qatar National Library donates over 4,000 books to Somali National Library

Mogadishu (SONNA) – The Qatar National Library donated more than 4,000 books in various fields of knowledge, culture and scientific research to the Somali National Library.
The initiative comes within the framework of cooperation between the two countries in the educational and cultural fields. The donation ceremony was held on Sunday in the presence of officials from the Government of the Federal Republic of Somalia.
Somali Minister of Information and Tourism Osman Abu Bakr Dubai thanked the government and people of the State of Qatar for their generous support. He stressed that Somalia is grateful for the permanent and fraternal support from Qatar, noting that books are among the most precious gifts and that whoever gives you a book contributes to increasing your knowledge and culture.
In turn, Somali Minister of Education, Culture and Higher Education Abdullah Abu Bakr Haji thanked Qatar for the continuous support of Somalia and the dedication of more than 4,000 books from the Qatar National Library to the Somali National Library. He pointed out that Qatar’s giving is not strange because it is a pioneer in providing support to Somalia.
Haji added that Qatar has previously funded a number of humanitarian and infrastructure projects, such as the Mogadishu-Afgoye Road, in addition to the construction of some government headquarters.
