The Republican Masquerade Is Over, so is the Dems' Time to Remove The Masks"The masquerade balls are over. Each of those costume parties cost $100 million dollars paid for primarily by corporate interests, with tens of millions of tax payer dollars to augment the corporate booty. It is evident that the corporate media – which first gushed over the Democratic Convention and then gushed over the Republican Convention – fell for the masquerade. Let’s hope they return to reality and start reporting on what is really occurring so we can have an electorate voting for reality and not fantasy." |

Lonely Rider"The Israeli peace camp, with all its factions, always appeals to logic. It tries to persuade the Israeli public that peace is necessary for the existence, the future, the security and the well-being of the State of Israel. But politics is not only a matter of logic. Emotions play an important role. As I insist again and again: in politics it is not rational to ignore the irrational. Abie acted from the heart, and thus touched the hearts of people." |

Differences between McCain/Palin and Obama/Biden"The Republicans don't care about the little guy, but they don't pretend to. They hope the little guy gets the trickle down effect of their policies to boost income for the rich. The Democrats say they care about the little guy, but forget about him after Election Day. The two sides end up essentially the same." |

Dems, Media Elite Overreacted to Gov. Sarah PalinWhen John McCain picked Gov. Sarah Palin to be his VP running mate, most Americans yawned: “Sarah, Who?” Not the Democrats and the Media Elite. They tossed a first-class hissy fit. One of the worse offenders was the site, “HuffPost.” It even created a special page posting a lot ot negative rumors about the “working mom.” Meanwhile, GOP speakers, like the pro-Iraq War, pro-waterboarding Sen. Joe Lieberman, got off the hook with little criticism. |

Frightened, ignorant and distracted--that's how the media want us to actCanWest, FauxNews, et al. are destroying healthy journalism by forcing us to consume politically modified (PM) news just as Monsanto and other toxic companies are destroying agriculture with genetically modified (GM) crops. |

End of an Odyssey"My only frustration with what was undoubtedly a successful operation was with the fact that Israelis just don't get it - and don't want to get it. The implications of our being the strong party and the fact that the Palestinians are the ones truly seeking peace are too threatening to their hegemony and self-perceived innocence." |

Beyond the Conventions"With right-wing Republicans running the White House for 20 of the last 28 years, maybe the downplaying of the importance of the presidency has become a kind of coping mechanism for some progressives. Accustomed to a status quo that grows increasingly dire, we've settled into an uncomfortable "comfort zone" as familiar as it is macabre. At the same time, the cascading effects of right-wing control over most of the federal government have been cumulative and devastating." |

Governor Palin and Mayor Giuliani Disregard Community Organizing: A Community Organizer's Defense"Barack Obama should take advantage of this political opportunity created by the ironic remarks of Republicans Governor Palin and Mayor Giuliani and explain how community organizing directly relates to successfully dealing with the serious challenges confronting the United States, including terrorism. Facilitators of and participants in well organized community development initiatives are empowered in such a way that diminishes feelings of alienation and the kind of discontent that can lead to violence." |
